The 2000 NIKE Tournament of Champions has been
scheduled for December 18, 19, 20, and 21 at Northwestern and DePaul Universities in Chicago, Illinois. The games will be held at Northwestern University's Welsh-Ryan Arena and McGaw Hall, and at the DePaul University Athletic Center.
The NIKE Tournament of Champions is universally regarded as the most competitive and prestigious girls' basketball event in the United States and the world. Thirty-two of the strongest high school basketball programs in America will compete in two 16-team divisions.
The powerful and diverse field includes highly rated teams from 18 different states and every region of the country. Participants represent the great states of Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, Washington, and Wyoming.
The 2000 field is being touted by preseason pollsters as the greatest collection of teams in history. According to an early preseason poll published by the widely circulated and respected Street and Smith's Magazine, the event will host eight of the top 10, 15 of the top 20, and 26 of the top 40 teams in the nation.
