Day Three of the Bookjammin Hoops Tournament

Boys Bracket

Down 47-49 with just under 4 minutes left Hayfield went on a 13-3 run to end the game and upset O'Connell 60-52 in the Championship game. Russell Lee ignited the rally with a big 3 game the Hawks the lead. Lee and Craig Battle were tremedous in the win scoring 18 and 20 points respectively. Lee was named the Tournament's MVP. Battle and teammate Darren Stackhouse were also named to the All-Tournament team. Ricky Lucas led O'Connell with 15 points and 7 rebounds.
Lake Braddock took control of the game with a spirited run in the second quarter. Coy Lindsay had 15 of his 19 points in the first half to lead the Bruin charge as they down Madison 72-62 to take 3rd place in the Bookjammin Hoops Tourney.

Girls Bracket

Unbelievable!! Tiara Cruse knocked down a turn around jumper with 2 seconds left to win the Bookjammin Hoops Chamionship 49-48 over Anacostia. An outstanding championship game with an unreal ending. Cruse led the Warhawks with 18 points and 5 boards and earned Tournament MVP honors. Teammate Tara Eddy scored 16 and pulled down 8 rebounds in the title game and recieved all-tournament honors as well. Cynthkethia Sheffield scored 18 points and recieved all-tournament honors for Anacostia in a losing effort.
Aria Jones had 10 points, 9 rebounds, and 8 assists to key a 4th quarter comeback and lift the Gar-field Lady Indians over Lake Braddock 53-45 and claim 3rd place in the Bookjammin Hoops Tournament.

Day Two of the Bookjammin Hoops Tournament

Boys Bracket

In the first Semi-final the Hayfield Hawks upped their record to 7-0 behind big time performances by Russell Lee and Darren Stackhouse. Lee had 23 points, 8 assists and 7 rebounds while Stackhouse battled inside for 17 points and 10 rebounds. The Hawks held off a hard-working Madison team 71-56 to advance to the Bookjammin Championship game on Saturday.
In the last game of the night the extremely talented O'Connell Knights wore down the Lake Braddock Bruins in the second half. The Bruins played great basketball until the Knights pulled away with a 13-0 run to end the 3rd quarter capped off by this half-court bomb by Ahmad Smith. The second half spurt gave O'Connell a 73-54 win and advanced them forward to the championship game against Hayfield at 8:00 at Lake Braddock High School.

Girls Bracket

The girls semi-finals featured two highly touted teams flexing their muscles. In the first game the host Madison was led by Tiara Cruse and her 18 points, 7 steals, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists. Tara Eddy chipped in 12 points, 9 rebounds and 6 steals to lead the Warhawks to the 52-37 win over Garfield.
It was all Anacostia from the opening tip in the second game as they defeated Lake Braddock 69-27 to advance to the Championship at 6:00 p.m. at Lake Braddock High School. Anacostia used balanced scoring including 3 players in double figures to get the big win. It's going to be a war between these two powers in the championship game, don't miss.


Day One of the Bookjammin Hoops Touranment

Boys Bracket

The first round of the Bookjammin Hoops Tournament featured a re-match of last year's Region Championship, a powerhouse private school, and two home teams holding court. In the first game of the tournament Hayfield jumped out to a big 18 point first half lead over Oakton that the Cougars had cut to 12 by halftime at 32-20. The Cougars came out strong in the second half and fought back to take a one point lead in the fourth quarter. But clutch play down the stretch gave the Hawks a 50-48 win. The Cougars couldn't extract revenge on the Hawks who last year defeated Oakton 50-49 to win the Northern Region Title. The O'Connell Knights jumped out to a big 20-4 lead in the second game and never looked back as they cruised to a 76-40 win over Edison. The Knights placed 4 guys in double figures. In the two late games the tournament hosts Madison and Lake Braddock both defended their home floor. The Bruins defeated North Stafford 56-48 behind 12 points from Derek Oliverio. Max Sinthorntham added 9 points and 9 boards in the win. The Warhawks took down Stonewall Jackson 52-43. Randy Wood led the Warhawks with 12 points. Madison will face Hayfield at 7:00 at Lake Braddock, and Lake Braddock will host O'Connell at 8:45 in the semi-finals.

Girls Bracket

On the Girls side of the bracket both hosts Madison and Lake Braddock advanced with impressive victories. The Bruins got 12 from Casey Quigley and 11 from Kiera Watkins to upend North Stafford in overtime 47-44. Christina Carmon scored 7 of her 23 points in the last minute including this 3 pointer with 7.7 seconds left to force overtime. The Warhawks Tara Eddy nailed 3 three pointers and tallied 17 points to lead the way. Tiara Cruse chipped in 12 as they sailed past Douglas Freeman 65-32. Nikka Wells had a great game scoring 9 point, grabbing 8 boards and getting 7 steals leading Garfield in a defensive battle over Paul VI 34-23. Kendra Williams led the Indians with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Cynkethia Sheffield chipped in with 14 points to lead Anacostia over Langley 50-39 in the last quarter-final match-up.
