In the opening game of the Gonzaga DC Classic Tournament, Georgetown Prep
beat St. Joseph's Prep of N. Philadelphia, 62-60. Georgetown's Scot
Armstrong, who was the game's high scorer with 27 points, sank two free
throws in the final ten seconds to assure the victory in spite of a exciting
comeback from St. Joseph's who had tied the score 60-60 in the final minute
with two consecutive three point goals.

Senior forward Mike Orfini and freshman guard Eric Price led Gonzaga to
a 56-41 win over St. John's at Prospect Hall of Frederick, MD. Gonzaga
led 25-21 at the half but pulled away in the third quarter. Adam Diggs
had 16 points for St. John's Prospect Hall.

Coolidge dominated the boards and took several large leads only to see them
eroded by three-point barrages from Hunt and Atchison of Strake Jesuit.
Romell Johnson of Coolidge had 20 points. Cullen Atchison had 12 points for
Strake Jesuit.

Hall used its superior size to out rebound and outscore South Lafourche of
Galiano, LA. St. John's jumped to a quick 29-14 lead in the first period
and extended it throughout the game. Carlos Martinez of St. John's led all
scorers with 13 points.

In a taut
overtime final game, Gonzaga defeated Good Counsel, 53-50 to win the
tournament. Coming back from behind at the half, Gonzaga's defense
pressured Good Counsel and outscored them 19-10 in the third period. Good
Counsel closed the gap in regulation play to force the game into overtime.
Gonzaga outscored Good Counsel 8-5 in overtime. Leading the scoring for
Gonzaga were Joey Goodson and Erik Price with 11 points each. Kevin Rogus
had 15 points and Omari Israel had 14 points for Good Counsel.
Israel was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
