Riverheads wins first title in Dvision 1

Riverheads High School opened its' doors in 1962. Never has a football team made the playoffs nor for that matter, win a state championship. Until now! This past Saturday, the Riverheads Varsity football team defeated Bath County (11-2) for the second time this season, 26-12, and finished the season a perfect 14-0. They became the first football team in school history to make a post season appearance and cap it off with a state championship. Riverheads Senior RB Blake Ramsey carried the ball 12 times for 117 yards and two touchdowns to lead a rushing attack that produced 265 total yards on the ground. Chris Shiflett (Senior RB) also carried 15 times for 91 yards and one touchdown for Riverheads. Michael Bush was impressive for Bath County rushing for 41 yards on 13 carries and scoring one touchdown. Defensively, D.J. Bell was terrific for Riverheads recording 9 tackles and one sack on the afternoon. Riverheads overcame to first half fumbles and a 12-12 halftime tie score to claim the championship.
