In the Maryland Class 1A State Championship game Elkton High School of Cecil County defeated last years 1A champions Forestville from Prince Georges County. Junior running back John Triplett scored the Elks 3 TD with Tony Weaver knocking down all 3 PAT's. Triplett rushed 32 times for a total of 162 yards. Forestville scored late in the second quarter with a 41 yard run by Leonard Morton and Larry McClain pushed it in for the 2 point conversion to give Forestville the lead at half. However, Forestville was not able to overcome Elktons strong defense which held them to only 7 first downs. Final score Elkton 21 Forestville 8.
