The Heritage Hurricanes finished a perfect 14-0 and took home the school's first Football Championship in only it's 4th year of existence by defeating Dinwiddie 45-7. In the Division 5 Virginia State Football Championship Jayson Cooke had 3 TD's (2 pass, 1 run) and intercepted 2 passes to lead the Hurricane attack. Defensively Heritage was outstanding all night giving up only 2 first downs.

The Hurricanes stopped Dinwiddie on defense and drove down the field with relatively no problem until they reached the 15 yard line. The Hurricanes got backed up and faced a 4th and 17. QB Jayson Cooke scrambled in the backfield buying enough time to find WR Larry Davis for a 12 yard completion. Dinwiddie was charged with a face mask penalty on the play which gave Heritage more then the necessary yardage in needed for the first. A couple plays later Corey Rouser plunged in from 2 yards out giving Heritage the lead 7-0 with 1:04 left in the 1st quarter.

Jayson Cooke intercepted Dinwiddie Quarterback Jacob Curtis giving Heritage the ball back. With 4:24 left in the half Cooke hooked up with Davis on a simple crossing route. Davis made two Dinwiddie defenders miss and turned it into a 24 yard TD bumping the score to 14-0 Heritage.

Jesus Cruz Jr. recovered a Heritage fumble with 1:23 left in the first half giving the ball to Dinwidde on the 27 yard line. On the next play from scrimmage Curtis hit a streaking Chris Johnston (14 tackles on defense) down the sidelines for a Dinwiddie touchdown cutting lead to 14-7. The touchdown was the only offensive bright spot of the night for Dinwiddie as the Hurricane defense put the clamps on them in the second half.

With 52 seconds left in the 3rd Quarter Heritage went back up by two scores when Cooke rushed in from 5 yards out.

On the ensuing posession Heritage forced a Dinwiddie punt and Heritage took over on it's own 32 yard line. Junior RB Michael Johnson put the game out of reach with a 68 yard touchdwon run around right end. Once he got the corner there was no catching the speedy Johnson. The extra point was no good leaving the score at 27-7 with 11:09 left.

The Hurricanes would add 2 touchdowns a field goal down the stretch sealing the huge win 45-7 and Heritage's first State Championship. In only it's 4th year of existence Heritage looks to be a power for years to come.
