Hylton wins Northwestern Region title 18-13 behind Walton's heroics

Senior RB/DB D.J. Walton has started on 2 state championship teams, in the Northwestern Region championship game Walton proved he wants to play for a third. Walton (pictured) was huge on both sides of the ball. He rushed for 103 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. This sick move finished off a 7 yard TD run in the third quarter that put Hylton up for good 18-13. On defense Walton racked up an unheard of 4 interceptions. Three of his interceptions came in the second half thwarting any hopes Potomac had at coming back.

The Hylton Bulldogs cracked the scoreboard first with a 5 yard touchdown run by Walton. The extra point missed leaving the score 6-0. Potomac matched the Hylton score with this 17 yard TD run by Antwan Stewart. Stewart rushed for 94 yards on 11 carries for the Panthers. Walton's first interception gave the Bulldogs the ball in good field position. Hylton QB Jeff Overton capped off the first half scoring with this one yard plunge giving the Bulldogs a 12-7 lead going into the break. Sophomore Jeff Overton was filling in at Quarterback for his older brother Darryl who was sidelined with an injury. Jeff was fantastic rushing for 107 yards on 14 carries.

In the second half the Panthers struck first when QB Ryan Price scored on a 6 yard run. After a failed 2 point conversion the Panthers led 13-12. Walton's second interception set up this slick TD run by Walton that put the Bulldogs up for good at 18-13 late in the third quarter.

Walton intercepted his third pass of the night on the next series. The Bulldogs ran hard and tried to put the Panthers away. But Potomac got a big stop and got the ball one last time. Ryan Price's deep ball down the left sidelines was read perfect by Walton for his fourth interception and the celebration began as the Bulldogs race towards a third straight title stays alive, advancing them to the Division 6 State Semi-finals.
